Lily Allen
So, Lily Allen is getting played on my new pandora station (What I got by Sublime and Paper Planes by M.I.A.). Does anyone know anything about her? Is she cool? Is she ok to listen too without feeling like a loser (I already feel like a loser for listening to Regina Spektor)? How popular is she? Was she on SNL about 4 years ago? Is she as bad ass as she sounds?
I like her a lot. I hope this is ok. Please tell me more about her.

Shepherd Smith
Shepherd Smith is the only person on Fox with a brain. He's blaming the Republicans for Specter leaving and criticizing some Republican hack congressman for trying to use the swine flu to shut down the Border.
They'll probably replace him with another Beck or Hannity soon enough.
Does anyone know anything about Hannity accepting Olbermann's offer?

What's funny today?
According to my hallmates, torture.
Welcome to the W.E.L.L.
In fact, it's ok to torture the American people. As long as they are liberals.

Because he says it way better than I can...

The one thing that Stewart failed to mention is that one of the authors of these torture memos now sits on a Federal Appellate Court Bench. That is frightening. He really, really, really needs to be impeached. If Obama is going to keep Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Rove, etc. out of prison, I can deal. However, for one someone who used a bullshit legal argument to be interpreting other laws is not something that happens in Republics that want to continue to exist. Write your Congressperson. Impeach Jay Bybee.

Bob Dylan is funny
Half of the people can be part right all of the time,
Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all the people can't be all right all the time
I think Abraham Lincoln said that.
"I'll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours,"
I said that.
I laughed out loud in public when he said the last part. Go listen to "Talking World War III Blues." It's a good song.

WTF... again

Greg Paulus is playing football. At Michigan. WHAT?
Bad move, Dick Rod. You're trying to build a program, not a circus.
Not a fan of this move.

WTF
Neil Cavuto has found a 9 year old Teabagger, and has actually asked the kid why he is there. WTF?
The really scary thing is that the guy didn't sound any less clueless than the "adults" who showed up. I use the term adult loosely.

Wow. I'm turning into an angry liberal. This is terrifying.
Still, not as terrifying as seeing Michelle Malkin and Glen Beck on TV at the same time.

This gets to the basic issue with the whole Tea Party movement. It’s a group of fucknuts joining other groups of marginally related fucknuts to protest something or other, in a hugely fucknutty way. The point of the Tea Party movement, besides the largest thrusting of testicles to America’s collective face since the Soviets launched Sputnik, is to protest...well, basically the entire functioning of the government with no alternative plan or goal whatsoever. The stated purpose of the protests is “protest against out of control government spending”, which, while something, is also terribly and uselessly vague. It’s easy to lump in the gun nut survivalists and the Paulies and any number of other wackos because a mission to do stuff (and things!) tends to welcome in anyone who has similar feelings about the top-level definition of “stuff”. When you have a bunch of angry people welcoming a bunch of other angry people with no core principles or mission, it’s hard to get pissy when you all of a sudden find yourself standing beside Clem the White Supremacist Marksman with your “NO PORKULUS” sign.

Funny
According to Paul Krugman, the Tea Party thing is an "Astro-Turf" movement: fake grass roots.
I thought it was kind of funny.
Does anyone know if the College Republicans or any other group will be having such an event at Tech on Wednesday? I think it would be fun to observe.

Hair.
So, I was told that I needed a haircut, so I got one. Then I was told that it looked terrible, so my sister fixed it (I use the word loosely), but I still need another haircut. I think my family just wants me to shave it all off. This is an action that has been discouraged by VT people who mostly have only known me with longish hair. I think it is already to short, and would like to keep most if not all of what I have left. I really don't know though. I probably should have just left it all there until I started looking like Neil Young.
Also, does anyone have his new album? I hope it doesn't suck. I want it.

Irene is the worst
So, in addition to all of the crimes listed here, Irene took the cake today by suggesting that we take advantage of our day off of school next Thursday by watching the entire matrix trilogy (www.xkcd.com/566). We have the day off in remembrance of the shooting here at tech where 33 people died, and Irene wants to celebrate by watching a movie where Keanu Reeves kills people? Have some class, Irene. Have some class.

Music
Baller new Pandora station: And It Stoned Me by Van Morrison, The Weight by The Band, and Friend of the Devil. I'm really quite in love with Hippie Folk right now. It just played Wild World by Cat Stevens. I love that song. Now I just need to make sure I can maintain variety. OH wait it's Pandora. Anyone who wants to give me recommendations, please do. I'll probably get bored of it in about 6 days.
I'm reading Watchmen. It's phenomenal. I've never read a comic book/graphic novel before, and it's fun. A heck of a lot deeper than I ever thought comic books were.
UNC fans: Awesome for you. I really don't care that much.

Everybody loves...
...A Greek Girl. Or so said a t-shirt i read on a cutish blonde in West End.
The t-shirt is noteworthy only because most non-Greeks that I know do not have a particularly high opinion of members of fraternities and sororities, and one of the most common reasons for this is self-absorption. They should probably just stop worrying about themselves so much and be more like me.

One of the problems I've always had with literature is the conclusion. People's lives don't conclude. They end, but they don't conclude. Even when we know the end is coming, I don't think that we've ever fought off all of our demons, ended up victorious in our battles, and gotten right with everyone we've wronged. I also don't think that we have eras in our lives where we are completely changed. I was the same person on my first day of college as my last day at home. I had the same insecurities, the same dreams, and the same ideas about the way that the world and people and I was put together. However, when we read stories that don't tie up all of the loose ends, we get angry, because we desire conclusion and finality.
I write this because I really want to write something, but I don't know how. Maybe I haven't read enough to be comfortable to writing something, and maybe I haven't lived enough. I think that one of the reasons that I have trouble with something concluding is because I've never had a really significant person in my life die. I think I loved the two grandparents I've lost, but neither of them were a part of my day-to-day life and I didn't have an intimate relationship with either.
Maybe I'll try and write something after I finish the two books I'm reading right now (Watchmen and Cider House Rules), but I'll probably just write three sentences while drinking fair trade coffee about some girl who got dumped and blog about how I can't write anything.
Whatever. Regan, a friend who's an english major told me the other day, "I don't believe in writers. They're not real." I like existing, so maybe I shouldn't write anything.
